January 13th, 2018 saw a hugely successful fundraiser for Jamie’s Wish Foundation at Chicken N’ Pickle in North Kansas City. Insco Industries, Inc. was among the group of generous companies that sponsored the KC celebrity-filled event.
Jamie’s Wish Foundation is a charity developed in honor of Jamie Barkes Pursley, a woman who dedicated the last moments of her life to make efforts to improve the 15 private infusion suites at Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology and Hematology Center, where she received her own chemotherapy treatment. Jamie passed away in March 2011 at the age of 35, but her wish was realized. All 15 suites became new and improved through the generous efforts of those who raised $150,000 in 90 days after the project began in August of 2011.
However, the work of Jamie’s Wish Foundation is far from over. The newest project on deck is set to benefit the Kansas Cancer Center- North Infusion Center, and is inspired by Andy Tyhurst, a former patient at the center who recently passed away.
The pickleball tournament at Chicken N’ Pickle was the first annual and all proceeds went toward the project at the Kansas Cancer Center. Free food was included in ticket price and both a silent auction and live auction were held to raise more money for the center. The tournament hosted a beginner clinic, recreational tournament, and a competitive tournament, and the event saw participation from such Kansas City celebrities as Graham Zusi and Seth Sinovic, from Sporting Kansas City soccer team, Miss Kansas, Melanie Shaner, and many others. When all was said and done, the event ended up raising $50,000 for the Kansas Cancer Center.
Among the Insco Industries, Inc. employees who attended the event and bid on auction items were Jane Von Elling, Matt Hurd, and Thad Bartlett. Insco Industries. Inc. is honored to have been a part of this event and continues to be a big supporter of the Kansas City community and its people.
