The $200 million Sprint Center was a key element in Kansas City’s recent downtown redevelopment efforts that also include new restaurants and retail. The 18,000 to 20,000 seat venue is designed to host major league sports, as well as concerts, family shows and special events. The arena also serves as the headquarters of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and will house the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. According to the city, the Hall of Fame is expected to draw at least 150,000 visitors in its first year.
HOK Sport+Venue+Event was selected to lead a consortium of architects called the Downtown Arena Design Team, which also includes Ellerbe Becket, 360 Degree Architecture and Rafael Architects, Inc. The Hall of Fame portion of the complex is being designed by Edwin Schlossberg, Inc.
